West Ham suffered a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Popular football pundit Alan Shearer has suggested that the Hammers were very slow and lacked energy during the game.

After a stalemate first half, goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith-Rowe sealed all three points for the home side.

Shearer said to Premier League Tv production (15 December):

“They were very disappointing. They look absolutely shattered to me. They ran out empty.

“I didn’t see any energy from any of the players. There was no spark to their play. Everything was very slow.

“They couldn’t get any gear, any momentum.”

Honest verdict

The Hammers have been very disappointing since the
international break.

They have managed just one win out of their last six games
in all competitions, failing to win in any of their away games so far.

David Moyes’s side lost against Wolves and Manchester City, and drew against Burnley prior to this game. This is now getting a worrying sign for the Hammers.

West Ham failed to match the Gunners in terms of energy. Even Declan Rice struggled to make those surging runs into the box and inspire his team to come back strongly in the second half.

Obviously, the red card shown to Vladimir Coufal left them with a numerical disadvantage, but they were pretty ordinary before that.

Michail Antonio was poor throughout the game, while the likes of Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini failed to add a creative spark in attacking midfield.

It felt like the players are tiring a bit. West Ham face Norwich City in their next game, and they should be looking to bounce back to winning ways.
