Alan Shearer has singled out attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals for praise after West Ham United’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.
The Spain international, 25, whipped in a corner which Alisson deflected into his own net early in the game before restoring the Hammers after the visitors drew level.
Kurt Zouma’s goal ensured completing a comeback was impossible for Liverpool, and while all the players involved in action gave their best, only Fornals made it to Shearer’s Team of the Week line-up.
The Newcastle legend said: “Fornals’ corner wreaked havoc for the opener and he scored West Ham’s second in a memorable victory over Liverpool.
“Yet again a key performer for the Hammers.”
Fornals does not get a lot of plaudits compared to the likes of Declan Rice and Michail Antonio, but he has been very important to the Hammers’ recent success story, bagging four goals and assisting another one in the Premier League so far in 2021-22.
He has started every game of the campaign, and has been very consistent in his performances.
He did not stop running against Liverpool, helping out defensively to help soak the pressure and always made himself available to sprint whenever West Ham launched a counterattack.
Fornals’ huge contributions in attack and defence have been very crucial for the Hammers, and he is on track to having his best season in front of goal for the club.
The former Villarreal scored five league goals last term and just two in his first season, but he will be looking to reach double figures for the first time in his career.
From what we have seen so far, that could happen this season as he looks to help fire West Ham into the Champions League.
