Arsenal News-3

Juventus have seemingly put an end to Arsenal’s hopes of signing Arthur Melo with manager Massimiliano Allegri claiming that the midfielder is going nowhere.

Allegri’s Comments Fly In The Face Of Recent Developments

With Arsenal’s transfer window very limited..and damaging to the club, with a few departures, no incomings so far, hopes were pinned that Melo could solve the Gunners desperately stretched midfield options, a problem Arsenal have amplified by sending out players. However, that option would seem to be a ‘no go’ too now.

Previously, the club had held talks with the Brazilian midfielder’s agent and were very keen to sign the 25-year-old on loan before the January transfer window slams shut in only a few days time.

It was reported that Arthur had already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and wanted to make the move to the Premier League.

Juventus, however, had not given the green light to the move as yet, since they wanted to sign a replacement before letting him go.

And now Juve manager Allegri is adamant that Arthur will not be loaned out, seemingly slamming the door to the option shut. Allegri said:

‘The team is this and it will remain like this…Let’s not forget that Arthur has come back from six months of inactivity, he needed to find time and he’s now performing well…Arthur’s talent is not in dispute, he needs certain players by his side. Arthur’s part of Brazil national team, he’s an important player.’

What Is Happening At Arsenal

Whilst Juventus won’t let Arthur Melo go until cover is found, Arsenal apparently have had no such concerns. They have reduced their squad, lost others to AFCON, and seen their two most experienced midfielders lost to reckless red cards.

Unless Arsenal do their traditional late activity in the window, this could be a disastrous period for the club, given that they are challenging for a Champions League position, after a few years away.

Arteta says that Arsenal are still working hard, saying:

‘The team are working extremely hard to get the players that we want and we have no news to give you,’ said the Arsenal manager…We have a plan to try to bring players in and try to get the players we want with the right qualities and improve the squad in the best possible way every single window.’

Arsenal fans will hope that this is correct, or strong questions will likely be asked as to how the club conducted their approach to the ‘rebuild’, and how transfer activity is overseen.
