Rice, 22, has been instrumental in guiding the Irons to third place in the Premier League table after 11 games.
“He’s arguably been the best midfielder in the country,” Ferdinand said. “He has dominated games, he’s played with maturity. The Euros, something’s clicked with him different. His game management, the way he can change the pace of the game at times.
“When I was at West Ham I always felt I could go to the top and there were more levels in me, and I think Declan probably feels the same. But why’s he going to want to leave West Ham right now? They’re third in the league.
“For anyone to prise him out of West Ham, they’re going to have to pay big money. That’s the problem that anyone’s going to have now. They probably could have got him and pushed the boat out and went £50/60million in the summer.”
Reputation keeps rising
This is Rice’s fifth full season in the Premier League, and he just keeps on getting better and better.
There were those that questioned whether he could add anything new to his game and if his career would start to plateau.
However, he has taken his game to new heights by adding goals and assists to his name.
A direct contribution of four goals and assists has already matched his best-ever Premier League tally, set in the 2019/20 campaign, and he has also scored twice in the Europa League this season to help the Irons to top spot after four games in their group.
