West Ham are exploring options to sign a striker on a short-term deal in January and Gabriel Barbosa might become available on loan, according to Eurosport.

The Flamengo Brazilian hitman, 25, popularly called Gabigol, is also wanted by Aston Villa and Newcastle United, and he would love to prove himself in Europe after failing to during a brief spell at Inter Milan.

He will weigh up the offers when they start to land in January, and long-term suitors Hammers are expected to firm up interest next month given their current situation.

Gabigol was top goalscorer in the 2021 Copa Libertadores with 11 goals in 13 games, and West Ham could do with such a player right now.

A loan move makes sense as they can always decide to let him go should he fail to impress, and an option-to-buy could be included in a deal to please Flamengo.

Michail Antonio has gone without finding the back of the net in the last eight Premier League games, and David Moyes cannot afford to go into the second half of the 2021-22 campaign solely relying on the Jamaican international striker.

Gabigol ended the year with 12 goals and five assists in 18 league games, and the Brazilian international could help the Irons finish in the top-four.

He is hungry to prove himself in Europe, and with Champions League football possible next season at the London Stadium, the Hammers are an attractive option.

West Ham are also playing in the last-16 of the Europa League in March, and a chance to show what he is capable of doing to the continent could tempt him.

Moyes should be all over this deal.
