All-time Premier League top scorer Alan Shearer has selected two West Ham players in his team of the week after the Irons’ 3-2 win away at Crystal Palace.

Manuel Lanzini earned his selection thanks to a well-taken brace of goals while Declan Rice was chosen in midfield with a commanding performance.

It was Rice’s 150th Premier League game for West Ham and he was in for particular praise from the former Blackburn, Newcastle and Southampton goal machine.

“Clocking up his 150th Premier League appearance in West Ham United’s 3-2 win at Crystal Palace, he seems to be getting better every month. He got another assist this time,” Shearer said about England midfielder Rice.

He praised Lanzini’s performance too saying: “The man of the match, scoring twice against Palace. He produced brilliant skill and a fine finish in off the crossbar for the first.”

A Credit to Moyes

Lanzini has been a revelation at the London Stadium in recent weeks as he has stepped up to the plate after Pablo Fornals’ injury.

Coming into a well-oiled attack cold have seen the Argentine struggle to slot in as well as Fornals had but he has raised his game to another level and looks right at home in behind powerful forward Michail Antonio.

Credit, therefore, has to go to West Ham manager David Moyes who has developed a system and a group of players that can be interchangeable and still perform no matter the combination of players on show.

Most notably, the Hammersexcellent Carabao Cup win away at Old Trafford against Manchester United after making wholesale changes showed that they aren’t just a good 11, they’re a good squad.

Rice though has been a mainstay in the West Ham midfield since long before Moyes joined the club and he has stepped up to a leadership role this year admirably.

The target now for West Ham is to go beyond the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League for the first time and this campaign is as good a chance as any with no team taking command of the race for the top four.

In other West Ham news, The Hammers could be close to bringing in this Brazilian attacker in January.
