Paul Merson predicts Liverpool to beat West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday and extend their lead over them to five points.

The Irons currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, just two points behind this weekend’s visitors, but ex-England midfielder Merson, writing his weekly predictions on Sportskeeda, backs Jurgen Klopp’s side to emerge 3-1 winners.

“With Chelsea being favourites against Burnley, this is a must-win for Liverpool,” he said. “They have Arsenal to play against after this, and they cannot afford to lose against West Ham.

“If Liverpool are on song this weekend, I don’t see how West Ham can stop them.

West Ham have been excellent in the Premier League this season and could have a go on Sunday. I think Liverpool have too much for West Ham at the moment and I think Jurgen Klopp should be able to pick up another victory here.”

Attack, attack, attack?

Merson suggests that the home side may opt to take the game to Liverpool on Sunday, rather than set up to contain the Reds.

There’s some logic behind that, given only Liverpool [29] and Chelsea [26] have scored more Premier League goals than the Irons this season [20, level with Manchester City].

However, taking Liverpool on at their own game can be a difficult tactic to emerge victorious in.

Klopp’s side have scored in every single game they have played this season, domestically and abroad, and in Mohamed Salah they boast a player that is arguably the finest in Europe at this current moment.

David Moyes may adopt a more cautious approach to this encounter, but with the likes of Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen in attack, the Irons should not be afraid to launch attacks at every feasible opportunity.

In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ £25.3m South-American centre-mid who won a big 2021 cup.
