We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie has not been impressed by what he’s seen from West Ham defender Craig Dawson.

He believes that he’s come to the end of his playing career and has become unreliable for the Hammers.

Dawson has come into the side after Angelo Ogbonna’s season-ending injury and has partnered Kurt Zouma for a while.

However, once the Frenchman also got injured, the English defender has found himself become the first-choice option for David Moyes.

That said, he has not won over everyone yet.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, Craig Dawson has come in (for Angelo Ogbonna). He’s come to the end of his career now.

“But you can’t rely on him. He makes mistakes.

“The club do need to sign a centre-half in January.”

The Hammers have been linked with a number of centre-backs and they’re expected to sign one before the window closes.

Nat Phillips, James Tarkowski and Nathan Ake have been among the names mentioned, but there have been a few players who have also been thrown into the mix.

In other West Ham news, ExWHUemployee has issued a major injury update with a ‘Brilliant’ player set to be out for up to three months
