David Moyes has been left frustrated with a dodgy VAR decision as West Ham managed a 1-1 draw against Brighton in the Premier League clash at the London Stadium on Wednesday.
Tomas Soucek gave the Hammers an early lead when he scored
from a header with a deft touch. A second goal was disallowed for offside
against Michail Antonio, and Moyes feels that the goal stood have stood.
The VAR referee Jarred Gillett felt that the ball had brushed Antonio’s heels via the legs of Brighton defender Shane Duffy.
However, it appeared that Duffy had got the final touch, but the goal was still ruled out.
Moyes said after the game, as quoted by the Daily Mail: “Whoever the VAR has to decide why we can chalk that off. I hope someone comes out and tells us. For me the last touch came off Shane Duffy’s legs.
“I think it’s so hard to call that not a goal. You have to have something much clearer to identify why that goal can’t stand.
“I’m hoping to be showed a real reason why it wasn’t given. And the time it took suggests it was a difficult call.”
It was another frustrating result for the Hammers who have now
gone three games without a win in the Premier League.
The international break appeared to have disrupted the momentum, but the problem lies deeper.
The likes of Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals missed glorious opportunities leaving it late for Brighton to equalise thanks to a spectacular acrobatic finish from Neal Maupay.
The form of Antonio should be a big concern for Moyes.
West Ham could have won the match with better finishing from both Bowen and Antonio. The striker is not looking himself lately and his movements are not that smart.
Is he suffering from fatigue already? Moyes needs to add a striker to his ranks in the January transfer window to add competition for that spot.
