Charlie Austin shut down Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT last night after the latter claimed West Ham defender Kurt Zouma has a mistake in him.
The Frenchman joined the Hammers this summer after leaving Chelsea, and while the QPR hitman believes that happened because the Blues have better options at the back, he insists no defender is perfect.
Zouma has been a key player for West Ham before injury struck last weekend, and he could miss more than two months of action in a huge blow for David Moyes.
Austin said on talkSPORT (as shared on their Twitter account) on Tuesday (7 December): “Signing of the season? Kurt Zouma is definitely up there…Other clubs are looking at him saying ‘we should’ve got him’, like Spurs and like Arsenal!
Goldstein disagreed, saying: “It’s harsh for me to say, but I always feel with Kurt Zouma he’s got a mistake in him.
Austin was having none of it, replying: “Most defenders have.”
Moyes made sure that West Ham signed the France international as he knew what he was going to be getting, and it is not a surprise that he hit the ground running at the London Stadium.
The Irons are flying right now, and Zouma is one of the reasons why they have started the season brilliantly and are sitting in fourth place right now.
He was brilliant against Chelsea on Saturday (4 December) before going off, and he also played a key role in the 3-2 win over Liverpool prior to November’s international break.
Zouma is a solid defender as they come, and claiming he has a mistake in him is not a solid argument.
There is no centre-back that goes a whole campaign without an error, and that is just part of the game.
West Ham are where they are at the moment because of the huge impact the summer arrival has made, and they will miss him a lot going forward.
His injury could end up derailing their campaign if care is not taken, and Moyes now needs to get in a quality replacement in January for that not to happen.
In other West Ham news, an amazing attacker is making personal arrangements for Hammers switch in January.
