West Ham United goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has revealed that talks are ongoing over an extension, and he expects to sign a new deal.

The Hammers brought in Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain on loan in the summer to challenge the 36-year-old, but the Pole has retained his starting berth so far.

Fabianski has kept three clean sheets in nine Premier League games in 2021-22, shutting out Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

The Hammers ace is showing no signs of slowing down, and he reckons he will get a new deal next summer.

Fabianski has provided an update when asked by Meczyki if he sees any sign that he is remaining at the London Stadium beyond the end of the season.

He said: “As far as I can tell, there have been some preliminary talks already going on. I hope that we will calmly come to a good solution for both sides.

“I do not see any reasons for it to be otherwise, since the club and I are satisfied with this cooperation.”

Good news

Fabianski has been brilliant this term, and the arrival of Areola has certainly kept him on his toes.

While the Frenchman has better distribution and is more comfortable with the ball at his feet, he has continued to punch the ball while not being under pressure like he did at Fulham.

An error while attempting to catch a cross against Genk last Thursday almost resulted in a goal, and his lack of confidence when dealing with set-pieces has continued to hinder him from becoming the first-choice for West Ham.

At the moment, Fabianski has further cemented his place in David Moyesstarting XI with some top displays so far, and it would not come as a surprise if he gets handed a fresh one-year deal in the coming months.

He deserves it without a doubt, but whether that could see Areola consider his future with the Hammers remains to be seen.

In other West Ham news, Jack Wilshere has predicted major Hammers exit, but reckons one goal would stop it.
