West Ham will have to cough up £28.5million to bring in Ben Brereton Diaz during the current window, according to Claret and Hugh.
The Chile striker who was born in Stoke-on-Trent, and is only a young man, 22, has come to clubs attention whilst playing for the Championship outfit, and sources at the club have said that the right price could see him move, even though Blackburn are pushing for promotion.
The Hammers have scouted Diaz several times, but paying nearly £30million for a player who could be free this summer seems excessive.
One caveat to this is that, the Ewood Park outfit do still have the option of a year’s contract extension, which means that they could stop him leaving on a FREE in a few months time.
Will He Go?
Blackburn don’t want to lose a player who has 20 goals in 27 league games this season at this point, but they must hope that a large figure will do one of two things: either bring in a large kitty, or discourage potential suitors from taking him.
West Ham will likely be in the latter category, as such a large fee for a Championship player who is nearly out of contract, seems highly unlikely.
Rovers are being astute in their dealings, and know that this move will likely keep Diaz with them until their hopes of promotion are realised…or postponed.
So, is the move not going to happen? It depends upon David Moyes. Will he sanction such a large sum for an acutely needed striker? It is improbable, but not impossible.
Diaz could surely help boost their top-four and European chances and could be the difference as to whether the Hammers get some silverware or not.
However, a transfer, at this stage, looks unlikely. and could be re-visited in a few months time.
