West Ham are among the clubs to consider a January loan move for PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to online news outlet 90min.

Wijnaldum, 31, signed a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 leaders in July after leaving Liverpool as a free agent.

However, the Netherlands international has held talks with club chiefs after growing disillusioned with his lack of minutes at the French giants.

As such, his representatives have sounded out several Premier League and European clubs over a January loan move, with West Ham among them.

90min claim the Irons, alongside Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Leicester City and Aston Villa, are among those “not to dismiss the idea” of a temporary move.

New Lingard?

A Premier League-proven midfielder that can score goals on a mid-season loan? That one might sound familiar to Hammers.

Jesse Lingard arrived on loan in January 2021 after finding games hard to come by at Manchester United.

There was some scepticism that greeted his move to the London Stadium, but his reputation soared after he scored nine goals in the second half of the season to inspire the Irons to sixth place and a Europa League group stage berth.

Though Wijnaldum has operated in a deeper midfield role for Liverpool and PSG, he could certainly thrive at West Ham in a position similar to Lingard.

His first season in the Premier League with Newcastle United brought about 11 goals and in 85 appearances for the Dutch national team, whom he plays for in a more advanced role, he has scored 26 times, including 16 in the last three calendar years.

While a centre-back and centre-forward are priorities for the Irons in January, these sorts of opportunities do not come around too often.

It could be foolish to turn down the chance to sign the 2020 Premier League winner.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are lining up a January loan deal for this 22-cap centre-back after Tuesday’s hammer Kurt Zouma injury blow.
