Richard Keys has blasted Peter Bankes after Arsenal were controversially awarded a penalty against West Ham on Wednesday night.

While Alexandre Lacazette missed the resulting spot-kick in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over the Irons at the Emirates, Vladimir Coufal was sent off for a second yellow card.

Coufal clearly won the ball before Lacazette was brought down in the box and Keys has brought up a previous error by Bankes, who was in charge of VAR on Wednesday.

“Peter Bankes was also in VAR for this one,” said Keys on his Twitter account on Thursday as he shared a link to an incident in West Brom’s loss at Manchester United last season.

“Can someone please tell me why it was different?

“These guys are a joke I’m afraid. Cover up after loose truth after cock up. “

Ridiculous

Coufal won the ball and as he won the ball, video replays clearly show that he only made contact with Lacazette because his foot bounce off the ball.

How can anyone look at that incident again and say that Coufal was fouling Lacazette? And how can anyone watch it again and feel as though it was worthy of a booking?

Even in real-time, you could see that wasn’t a foul.

As soon as Coufal made that sliding tackle on Lacazette, you could see that he won the ball first and referee Anthony Taylor took a few seconds to make his mind up.

He got that wrong. Bankes then got it completely wrong despite having the benefit of replays in front of him.

What a farce.

Coufal’s red card cannot be appealed against, which is yet another ridiculous law within the game because a yellow card can be just as wrong as a straight red card.
