Alex Crook has shared that David Moyes stepped in to stop West Ham United keeper Darren Randolph from moving to Aston Villa.

The Irish international was in the advanced stages of a loan move to the Premier League side as recent as yesterday.

Crook admitted that it now looks unlikely with Moyes not keen to sanction the move to Villa Park for Randolph.

Speaking live on talkSPORT this afternoon (11 January), Crook shared the latest on a potential exit for Randolph which now looks unlikely.

“I mentioned yesterday, Darren Randolph potentially heading to Aston Villa,” he said.

“That was pretty much a done deal at one stage yesterday afternoon, but looking less likely now, David Moyes not keen to let Randolph go to Villa.”

This appears to be a bold move by Moyes, and potentially a vote of confidence in the Irish veteran at the London Stadium.

Moyes may also have just not wanted to strengthen a potential rival in the Premier League, with Aston Villa turning a corner under Steven Gerrard.

Randolph was only going to be a backup option behind Emi Martinez at Villa Park, so it wouldn’t have frustrated him too much to see it potentially collapse.

Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski are ahead of Randolph at the London Stadium, and that isn’t going to change.

Much will depend on if the Frenchman turns his loan move into a permanent switch, though, so any exit for the likes of Randolph may need to wait until the summer.
