David Ornstein has reported that Jesse Lingard plans to stay at Manchester United next month rather than look to secure a move to West Ham United.

The England international has been linked with a permanent move to the London Stadium ever since his successful loan spell last season.

With Newcastle said to be interested too, it looked likely next month but Lingard is now set to stay and fight for his spot at Old Trafford under Ralf Rangnick.

Writing for The Athletic on Monday morning, Ornstein shared the intended plans of Lingard for the window next month.

“The January transfer market opens for business in under two weeks and one of the players most heavily linked with a move is the Manchester United and England midfielder Jesse Lingard,” he wrote.

“It has led to speculation that the 29-year-old could leave Old Trafford on a permanent basis, with West Ham United and Newcastle United among a number of suitors reportedly keen to sign him.

“Regardless, it is believed Lingard has decided he will not be making a switch during the upcoming window, choosing instead to stay and battle for a way into interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s plans.”

Big blow?

The likes of ExWHUemployee have already shared recently that the Irons were looking to open talks early next month to bring Lingard back to the capital.

Ex shared that Lingard was expected to push for the exit at Old Trafford, so the arrival of Rangnick must have changed his mind.

If that is the case, the German could have had a quiet word and promised him the potential of a new deal should he perform well.

With this move seemingly shattered before the window has even opened, it will be interesting to see what the likes of Rob Newman do next.

There will certainly be a long list of targets, and central defence surely has to be the single priority right now – something that this Lingard move collapsing may actually help.
