West Ham United were pegged back dramatically in the Europa League this evening, drawing 2-2 against Genk.
Said Benrahma scored twice in Belgium to overturn an early goal for the home side, but a late Tomas Soucek own-goal saw it finish in a draw.
Matt Jarvis was stunned by the opening goal by Benrahma but singled out Manuel Lanzini for his work in the build-up.
Speaking live on Sky Sports this evening, Jarvis singled out the South American for his role in the equalising goal.
“David Moyes will be delighted,” he said. “His team-talk has worked. It was like a training ground goal, a great passing interchange in the middle, round the corner to Lanzini, and then he plays a delightful ball in behind which you want as a wide player, in behind the full-back.
“Since the goal, it’s been all West Ham. They’re picking up all the second balls, closing everything down, there’s a lift in the camp and now it’s when the next goal is coming.”
What a goal it was by Benrahma, and his second goal was even better – likely taking away the plaudits from others in the squad.
Lanzini was brought into the midfield this evening, and his ability to get on the ball and find pockets of space for others was incredible.
His pass behind the full-back in the build-up to the first goal was superb, and exactly more of what he needs to be doing to break into the Premier League side.
The likes of Pablo Fornals will be looking over their shoulders with performances like this from Lanzini.
It will most likely be a place on the bench against Liverpool this weekend, but David Moyes will be delighted with the impact his rotation players are having this season.
