West Ham striker target Gabriel Barbosa has told Flamengo officials that he’d like to enter discussions about a Premier League move this month, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Tuesday [4 January, 05:16pm], Sheth reported that Barbosa, who’s also known as Gabigol, would like to speak to the Hammers if they made an offer to sign him.

It is understood that if West Ham were to sign the 25-year-old Brazil international, it would be a loan-to-buy deal worth £25million.

“There’s been a bit of a development in the last hour,” said Sheth, live on air on Tuesday evening.

“I’ve spoken to a contact who says to me that Gabriel Barbosa has spoken to Flamengo officials to tell them that if a suitable offer was to come in from England, then he would like the opportunity to speak to that club.

“We mentioned yesterday West Ham’s interest.

“A little bit more on what a potential proposal West Ham’s one would be, it’s an 18-month loan with an option to buy for around €30million25million).

“Now, we say option but it would almost turn into an obligation to buy because the option would be dependent upon appearances and if he made a certain amount of appearances, and scored a certain amount of goals, then the option would become an obligation.”

Get it done

This would make a lot of sense for West Ham as they need to get a new striker signed up to pad out David Moyesoptions up front.

Michail Antonio is our only striker option – and he’s not really someone you could call a natural in that position.

Gabigol scores goals for fun, netting 29 times in 43 appearances in the recently-ended season at Flamengo.

One of those goals came in the Copa Libertadores final.

Gabigol flopped in spells at Inter Milan and Benfica during his previous spell in Europe but if we sign him on a loan-to-buy, it gives the Irons a chance to see whether he’s good enough first.
