West Ham could be beaten to the signing of Brazilian striker Arthur Cabral by Barcelona, according to Goal Italy.
It was reported by the same outlet last week that the Hammers were set to make a move for the Basel man after holding talks with his representatives.
Cabral has a release clause of £17million, but Basel are willing to let him go for only £12.7million.
Goal now claim that, having learned of West Ham’s intentions to sign the 23-year-old, Barcelona are ready to make their move and usurp the Irons.
The report states that the Catalan giants were previously refusing
to pay Cabral’s £12.7million price tag and wanted to negotiate, but do not want
to see him go elsewhere so are now willing to meet Basel’s demands.
It would be a huge blow for West Ham if they were to miss
out on Cabral having looked set to secure his signature.
David Moyes is in desperate need of another striker to improve his squad depth, with very few options at his disposal behind Michail Antonio.
The Jamaican international is unlikely to be able to play
every game as the Hammers’ fixture list continues to mount and is also without
a goal in his last five matches.
Cabral is enjoying a sensational season for Basel and has
netted 24 goals in 25 games in all competitions so far.
However when Barcelona come calling it is often difficult to
say no, given the history of the club and the opportunity to play in the
Barca could drop into the Europa League this season though, placing them on a level playing field with West Ham in that regard.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes was ‘absolutely furious’ at this Irons star against Manchester City.
