David Gold has heaped praise on Michail Antonio after the West Ham forward scored his first goal for Jamaica this week.

On Friday, the 31-year-old scored when he came off the bench in Jamaica’s 1-1 draw against El Salvador in World Cup qualifying.

Antonio has been in stunning form for his club this season and it now seems as though he’s been able to translate those performances at an international level too, drawing praise from Irons chief Gold.

Michail Antonio scored an excellent first goal as a Jamaica player during Friday’s World Cup qualifier [draw with] El Salvador at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador,” said Gold via his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning.

“Well done Michail.”

New heights

Antonio goes from strength to strength every time he plays.

He may be 31-years-old and someone who spent a lot of his career playing as a right-back and a right-winger, but he’s now a striker who’s banging in goals for both West Ham and for Jamaica.

Sure, it was only against El Salvador but it was a stunner of a goal by the ex-Nottingham Forest man.

Scoring my first goal for Jamaica is a moment I will never forget. Gutted we couldn’t come away with the win but Tuesday is a chance to correct that. pic.twitter.com/qFFkJeBe1d

Antonio picked the ball up at the halfway line before charging towards the home side’s goal, wrong-footing a defender and then dinking the ball over the goalkeeper.

Wow.

We’ve seen all sorts of goals from Antonio and usually he uses his aerial ability or his strength.

But on this occasion, it was pure technique and pace.

Antonio is a striker who can do anything. He can link play up, he can run, he can head the ball, he can hold it up, he can get assists and he can get goals.

What a player he’s turned into.

He’s a proper modern-day hero at West Ham.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are readying a bid to sign this 31-cap South-American star.
