West Ham star Declan Rice has revealed that he hopes midfielder Manuel Lanzini can start more games going forward.

The Argentine came off the bench to score in stoppage time
of the Hammers’ 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

He has made seven Premier League appearances this season, but all of them have been as a substitute in the final half hour of matches.

Speaking to The Athletic, Rice sang the praises of Lanzini, admitting he wants to see him feature more often.

“Manu is technically so good,” the England international
said. “I hate playing against him in training because he wiggles out of
everything.

“He has that Argentinian play to him, he plays one and two
touch and he’s a great player to play with.

“His form has been excellent every time he’s come on the pitch, so hopefully he can start some games for us.”

Making an impact

If David Moyes is to begin to rotate more as West Ham’s
fixture list becomes increasingly congested, Lanzini should certainly be near
the top of his list of players in line for a start.

Many supporters were calling for the Argentine to feature
more after his substitute appearance against Aston Villa last month.

Lanzini came on with the Hammers 2-1 up, but his
introduction helped them pull clear at Villa Park and win 4-1; he got the
assist for Jarrod Bowen to round off the scoring.

It means that the 28-year-old has the same number of goal
contributions in his last four substitute appearances as Said Benrahma does in
his last 11 starts.

Perhaps it is time for the Algerian to drop to the bench, firstly to give him a rest but also to remind him that his place in the number 10 role in the starting XI is not secured.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes was ‘absolutely furious’ at this Irons star against Manchester City.
