West Ham United travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday, and an exciting clash is expected given the quality of players both teams boast of.

Fourth-placed Hammers have continued their mind-blowing form from last season, losing just twice so far out of nine Premier League games.

They will look to maintain their rich vein of form at Villa Park, but Michael Owen reckons both teams could end up sharing the spoils after 90 minutes as the hosts will be keen not to suffer another defeat.

He told BetVictor: “I was disappointed by what I saw from Villa last week against Arsenal. I think Dean Smith still isn’t sure on his best team and the balance of the team isn’t right. They’ve got a very good squad though and are capable of much better.

“I still think West Ham go under the radar. That was another excellent result against Spurs last week and the Hammers are firmly in the mix for the top six and could even shake up the top four.

“I think this is a closer game than the table suggests. After three defeats in a row, Villa can’t afford another defeat here and I’m going for a 1-1 draw.”

West Ham favourites?

Dumping holders Manchester City out of the League Cup during the week would have done the morale of the Hammers dressing room the world of good, and they will be buzzing ahead of their trip to the Midlands.

With most of their players firing on all cylinders at the moment, not many neutrals will be surprised if they stroll to a comfortable victory against the Villans.

Every West Ham player has a point to prove, and they have continued to deliver when it matters most.

With David Moyes eyeing a top-four finish, victory at Villa will come in handy as the campaign begins to take shape.

Smith’s side are hurting after three straight losses, though, so they will be putting up a fight in a bid to end that woeful run.

The Hammers could see a draw as a defeat given how they have been flying so far, but nothing is assured, and they will need to prove their top-four credentials by picking up all three points in any way they can.
