West Ham youngsters Aji Alese and Jamal Baptiste could be handed a start by David Moyes in the Europa League clash against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
According to ExWHUemployee, injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna have resulted in Craig Dawson and Issa Diop being the only two fit centre-backs and they could be rested for the mid-week dead rubber.
The Hammers have already won their Europa League group so can play a second-string team to keep the players fit for next weekend’s Premier League clash against Burnley.
Ex wrote on his page, “The game against Zagreb will be a good chance to give Alese (20) or Baptiste (18) or both some experience in advance of a potential period covering our only two fit centre backs in Dawson and Diop.”
Zouma had to be taken off in the second half of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Chelsea and we’re unsure as to how serious it is.
He is almost certainly going to miss the game on Thursday as he would’ve anyway been rested, but an injury makes it all the more important.
This is a good chance for Aleje or Baptiste to come and put in a shift and maybe show David Moyes why they’re ready for a first-team berth.
Diop appeared to struggle against the Blues and if one of the youngsters puts in a good shift, the manager may look to alter his playing eleven.
We’re eagerly awaiting what the two can bring to the table and it remains to be seen if Moyes trusts them enough to hand them a start.
