West Ham rose above a late Crystal Palace fightback to secure another three points in their quest for Champions League football.
Manuel Lanzini scored twice in the 3-2 win and he was in for high praise from BBC Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright.
‘Wrighty’, who knows a thing or two about scoring goals, was mesmerised with the Argentine’s quick feet and composure for his delightful first goal which extended the Hammers’ lead to 2-0.
“Bam, Bam, Bam, those three touches with the quick feet were just fantastic,” Wright said on Match of the Day.
Coming into his own
Lanzini has emerged in recent weeks as a key component of David Moyes’ setup and the praise he has received is richly deserved.
There is perhaps a hint of fortune over how he has returned to the starting 11 at the London Stadium with fellow attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals currently out injured.
But it is to Lanzini’s credit that he has stepped up to the mark as well as he has and he could keep the Spaniard out of the team when he returns to match fitness.
Even more importantly though, the 28-year-old has slotted back into the fold seamlessly and the team have continued to score freely.
Maybe the only downfall of Lanzini’s is being unable to match the constant work rate that Fornals brought to the team.
The Spaniard would run all day and his work ethic was a big reason for West Ham’s ability to turn the ball over quickly.
With more confidence though could come increased miles in the legs of Lanzini who is quickly becoming a star in East London.
In other West Ham news, this “Antonio 2.0” is a target for David Moyes as January plans begin to emerge.
