West Ham defender Aji Alese could be handed a start against Dinamo Zagreb, amid the club’s injury woes, claims Roshane Thomas.

Kurt Zouma is set to miss the next three to four months while Angelo Ogbonna has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

A dead rubber against Zagreb on Thursday will be ideal to try out the 20-year-old and that’s what Thomas, The Athletic journalist, believes will happen.

He said on the You Irons Podcast, “There’s a great chance for Aji Alese to play. Recently, he scored one of the best goals I’ve seen from a West Ham player this season.

“He is a left-footed centre back. I think he’ll get a chance. He’s got some first-team experience before joining and I’m hoping he’ll start on Thursday.”

Give the lad a chance

With January still a month away and no target finalised thus far, it makes sense to try the options Moyes has at the club.

If reports are to be believed, he is looking for a left-footed centre-back and Alese is exactly that.

He’s a physical defender capable of carrying the ball out from the back.

The 20-year-old will undoubtedly be raw due to his lack of experience at this level, but who is to say that he will not be successful if he’s handed a start?

After penning an extension at West Ham, Kevin Nolan responded to the development as “fantastic”, via the club’s official website.

There’s so much intrigue going into this game and we cannot wait to see which players are handed a start here.
