We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at West Ham...

West Ham are not at any immediate risk of being in financial jeopardy should they retain the services of Declan Rice.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley, who claims that the Hammers are not desperate for an influx of money, despite reports pointing to the contrary.

Eurosport journalist Dean Jones told The Done Deal Show last week (November 2021), that failure to get him off the books will lead to financial trouble, given the FFP rules.

David Moyes, in an interview in October 2021, said that while Rice was available for £100million in the summer, his valuation has now gone up.

While a nine-figure influx would be welcome by the club hierarchy, they’re under no real pressure to cave in to the demands of the big sides.

Discussing the financial implications of retaining the 22-year-old, Dr Dan, the Sheffield Hallam University expert, told West Ham Zone, “Looking at it right now, it does not seem to be a real problem at the moment.

With the club pushing for Champions League, their position has actually been pretty strong, even pre Covid. They don’t need to look at being a selling club.

The new ownership structure, that’s the battle for them.

I understand the point you could get £100million for him and there’s not a real need to sell your star assets. This is a club on an upward trajectory.

According to a Guardian report in July, Rice rejected two contract extensions at the London Stadium.

The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are understood to be circling around the England international.

In other West Ham news, the club are set to make a ‘Concrete’ bid to complete a major January signing
