The cast of Friends cast, including superstars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, have led the tributes to James Michael Tyler, who passed away over the weekend.

Tyler, who shot to fame in the hit sit-com, died from cancer on Saturday morning..he was only 59.

Tyler, who usually kept his health battle private until this year, had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018.

Jennifer Aniston, who immortalised Rachel Green, shared the following message on Instagram:

Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be so missed #JamesMichaelTyler.’

Aniston shared a classic moment from the series when, in 2004, Gunther finally revealed to ‘Rachel’ that he loved her.

Rachel’s response was also noteworthy, sharing that her thoughts would always be with ‘Gunther’ when she saw a guy who had ‘hair brighter than the sun’…a reference to Gunther’s highly bleached blonde look.

Courteney Cox, who portrayed Monica Gellar, shared similar sentiments when she said:

‘The size of gratitude you brought into the room and showed every day on set is the size of the gratitude I hold for having known you. Rest In peace James.’

Matt LeBlanc(Joey Tribbiani) wrote:

‘We had a lot of laughs buddy. You will be missed. RIP my friend,’ alongside a photo of their characters together in the show’s famous coffee house Central Perk.’

Lisa Kudrow(Phoebe Buffay) said:

James Michael Tyler, we will miss you. Thank you for being there for us all.’

David Schwimmer(Ross Gellar), has been the only notable absentee from the list to this point. However, others who had a great contribution to the show, also added their thoughts. One was the loveable character Janice(Maggie Wheeler), who said:

‘So Grateful to have know this kind and gentle man. James Michael Tyler will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.’

Announcement From The Family…

The family broke the sad news to the many millions of ‘Friends’ fans, saying:

‘The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh “Friend”), from the hit series Friends, but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband…Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures. If you met him once you made a friend for life.’

In June, Tyler bravely spoke on the Today show about the severity of his condition, telling Craig Melvin:

‘I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had spread to my bones…I’ve been dealing with that diagnosis for almost the past three years… It’s stage 4 (now). Late stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it’s gonna probably get me.’

For the record, Tyler appeared on the show between 1994 to 2004 and racked up an impressive 150 episodes.

Due to his fight with cancer, the TV star couldn’t appear on the HBO Max reunion for the show in person. Instead, he made a brief contribution virtually.

The show may have ended years ago, however ‘Gunter’ will live on in the hearts of millions for years to come…
