West Ham dumped Leeds United out of the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, with goals from Manuel Lanzini and Jarrod Bowen getting the job done.

The Hammers’ opener at the London Stadium today (9 January) was a controversial one as Bowen was offside in the build-up to the goal, but Gabby Agbonlahor was having none of it, taking to his personal Twitter account to react.

The talkSPORT account asked whether the effort should have been chalked off despite VAR’s decision to award it, and while almost everyone agreed it should have, the Leeds antagonist replied: ‘No.’

West Ham eventually doubled their lead in the closing stages of the game as they caught the visitors on the counter-attack, but things could have been different had their opener been rightly ruled out.

They were the better side all day and should have scored more, but they would count themselves lucky as VAR clearly helped them today.

The Irons will now hope to impress in the next round, with their eyes on silverware this season after getting dumped out of the League Cup by Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes will be hoping to go far in the FA Cup and Europa League, but his focus will now be fixated on the Premier League, with Norwich City and Leeds next within the next seven days.

Picking up six points from the next two league games will help get West Ham’s top-four hopes back on track, and they will be hoping for more favourable decisions by the officials.

Despite the technologies, referees will not always get it right, and clubs will only hope calls go in their favour most of the times.
