We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
West Ham are set to take on arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup on Thursday with a spot in the semi-final up for grabs.
The Hammers have gone on a fascinating run in the cup and have already toppled Manchester United and Manchester City in consecutive rounds.
However, they would enjoy getting one over their local rivals and get a chance to win silverware for the first time in years.
There have been Covid scares in the West Ham camp, but the understanding is that the game is set to go ahead.
However, a key Hammers player is reported to have contracted the virus, so he will be ruled out for this game.
Discussing the game, McAvennie told West Ham Zone, “I see Tottenham getting a penalty.
“David is going for it. I think they’ll [West Ham] beat them 2-1 or 1-0 I think. A narrow win.
“They’ve given their fans a run in the league and a cup run will be great.”
The game is set to kick off at 7:45pm UK time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Hammers fans will be in attendance in the away end and they will be looking to make this a memorable game for the players on the pitch.
In other West Ham news, the club have made an approach to sign a ‘Terrific’ international ace and a January move is on the cards
