Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of West Ham ace Declan Rice and is wary of him, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell, According to Manchester Evening News’ Stuart Brennan, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a big admirer of 3 West Ham players.

With the Hammers hosting Manchester City on Wednesday in the League Cup, the journalist has given us a valuable insight into the thinking that goes into preparing for such an important match for both teams.

So, who exactly will City be wary of?

Three Eyes On The Night and One Looking Forward…

Manchester City must be confident, what with winning the last four League Cup titles. However, Guardiola is determined to make it 5. As such, a dangerous team, such as West Ham, can shred those ambitions. And, Pep will undoubtedly have prepared for any threats that could do just that. But, who are Peps’ eyes focused on?

According to Brennan, Pep Guardiola will be wary of, and preparing for 3 key players who could wreck his plans. The first of the 3 is unsurprisingly Declan Rice.

Rice will not only have one eye on him during the tie, but also one eye looking forward. With many tipping Rice to succeed Fernandinho a the Etihad, City will be not only keeping an eye on his threat, but looking forward too…seeing how he fares against the level of play that a top side like City brings.

The second eye on the night will be on Michail Antonio, who is a serial scorer of late. Having put Tottenham to the sword, City’s defenders will be wary of allowing the Jamaican the opportunity to claim their goal as another feather in his hat.

The last eye on the night will be on Aaron Cresswell, according to Brennan.

Cresswell was a focus for Man City in the past, and will be out to prove a point during the tie. As such, Guardiola’s men will be wary of the motivation that Cresswell will bring to his game contribution.

Going To Be Fireworks…

This game will not likely be the kind of bullying encounter that showcases City’s quality..instead it could be a ‘blow for blow’ battle.

Both teams will enter the tie with massive pride. As such, it is unlikely to be a game that is ‘eased’ into. Instead, a quick line breaking press could be the tactic that both teams start with…and adapt from.

There is no clear favourite for the tie, but it will be a great tie to watch!

  1. Read the report with interest.

Unfortunately 2 out of the 3 supposed danger men highlighted were not played but rested as usual in the cup, suppose some people know more than others. When journalists are so obviously biased to one team – in this case mr Brennan (Manchester evening news’s Man City chief sports reporter) & Manchester City, then they tend to get things very wrong. both team news & result !!
