Ian Wright is fuming after West Ham United duo Aaron Cresswell and Jarrod Bowen missed out on the latest England squad on Thursday afternoon.

The Three Lions will continue their World Cup qualifiers this month against Albania and San Marino, and Gareth Southgate’s list has sparked debate following some omissions.

Wright believes the Hammers left-back and the attacking midfielder should have been called up following a brilliant start to 2021-22, and he has taken to his personal Twitter account to express his disappointment.

The former West Ham striker said: “I’ve been there where form is ignored and certain players are guaranteed spots.

“It’s hard to take because there is nothing else you can do.

“I don’t know what (Fikayo) Tomori needs to do get in and get a chance. Cresswell, Bowen, (Ben) White, (Conor) Gallagher will all be gutted.”

Bowen has two goals and two assists in 10 Premier League appearances so far this term, but it is his hard work that has blown people away.

England do not have many players that can press the opposition and harry defenders like the Hammers ace does, and they could do with such calibre of player in that squad at the moment.

Bowen is getting closer to that maiden call-up, though, and it will be hard to ignore him if he starts scoring and assisting more.

Cresswell has scored once and assisted thrice in 14 games across all competitions, and he definitely deserves a recall.

The 31-year-old assisted eight goals in 36 league games for West Ham last term, and the Three Lions do not have a better left-back than him at the moment.

There are still many games to play ahead of the 2022 World Cup, and should the Hammers duo keep impressing, they are likely to be joining Declan Rice in the final squad list for the tournament.
