We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Andriy Yarmolenko will leave West Ham before the transfer window closes on 31 January, according to Frank McAvennie.
On Wednesday, reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee reported on the West Ham Way that the club will listen to offers for Yarmolenko, 32, this month.
The Ukrainian attacker has failed to start a single Premier League match this season and has been an unused substitute in 10 of his last 13 inclusions in David Moyes’ matchday squad in the league.
After hearing Ex’s update and considering Yarmolenko’s lack of game-time in East London, McAvennie has tipped the Ukraine international to move on before the transfer window shuts.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “He (Yarmolenko) will go.
“Listen, I think he’s a good player. He comes on and he never lets the boys down. He doesn’t come on and sulk. He might be moaning he’s not in the game but I’m quite happy with the way he is.
“I think everyone knows that you’ve got to play football and Yarmolenko needs to play football. He’s got to play every week and I just don’t think he’s given enough time and I think he’s too good to sit on the bench.“
Despite his lack of game-time in the Premier League, Moyes has called upon Yarmolenko in the Carabao Cup and in the Europa League.
West Ham fans still have European football to look forward to after Christmas and the FA Cup kicks off next week, which could be another chance for Yarmolenko to get his boots muddy.
In other West Ham news, the Irons are in the hunt to sign this striker who’s been dubbed as a new Michail Antonio.
