Dean Ashton has claimed on talkSPORT that West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen has been better than Manchester City’s Jack Grealish so far in 2021-22.

The Premier League champions splashed £100million on the England international attacker during the summer transfer window, but he is yet to justify the British record-fee since joining them from Aston Villa.

Bowen has been one of the reasons why the Hammers have punched above their weights in the last 18 months, and when Adrian Durham asked Ashton whether he has been a better player than Grealish, the former West Ham star agreed.

AD: “Is it fair to say that Jarrod Bowen has played better than Jack Grealish so far this season?”

DA: “Head & shoulders, I’d say…”

Durham asked (as shared on talkSPORT Twitter account): “He has four goals for club and country this season and is understandably being scrutinised as a £100million player, but it easy to say that Jarrod Bowen has actually played better than Jack Grealish this season, would that be a fair comment?”

Ashton replied: “Head and shoulders, I’d say. You’ve to say Jarrod Bowen has been magnificent. He’s outstanding in pressing from the front. He’s got a great attitude, and if he continues to improve, then he’ll catch the eyes of top sides and England as well.”

True?

Bowen, 24, has three goals and four assists in 17 league games this season, while Grealish has two goals and two assists in 13.

The stats do not tell the whole story as the Hammers ace has been one of the most hardworking players on and off the ball in the top-flight.

He has been linked with some of the bigwigs and his omission from the last England squad sparked debates.

The former Hull City star does not boast of the flair that his Man City counterpart plays with, but he makes up for that with his industry and has been a very important player for David Moyes.

Bowen is probably not going to be able to break the British transfer record if he leaves the London Stadium, and suitors might pay at most just half of it (£50million) for his signature, but he has the potential to become a regular for the Three Lions.

Grealish and co are blocking him from getting a place in the star-studded England attack, but should he keep improving at this rate, he could soon be giving the Man City man and others a run for their money.

In other West Ham news, an amazing attacker is making personal arrangements for Hammers switch in January.
