We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie predicts West Ham and Manchester City to share the spoils on Sunday in their Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side host David Moyes and co barely a month after the Irons got one over the Citizens in the League Cup.
The East London outfit won 5-4 on penalties at the London Stadium last month to seal their place in the quarter-final of the League Cup.
That game was level after 90 minutes, and ex-Irons hero McAvennie expects the same this weekend.
“I think it’s going to be a difficult game,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “Big teams like Manchester City hurt when you beat them.
“They still play wonderful football, I think it will be a good game.
“I’m going to sit on the fence. I think it’s going to be a draw. It would be a great result for West Ham.”
Manchester City won 2-1 in the last Premier League meeting between the pair in February.
Centre-backs Ruben Dias and John Stones struck either side of a Michail Antonio equaliser to put a dent in West Ham’s top-four hopes.
The home form come into Sunday in rude health after four successive wins, and could temporarily join Chelsea at the top of the table on 29 points with a win.
Moyes’ side, meanwhile, could draw level on points with City if they claim an unlikely victory.
In other West Ham news, the Irons held talks with the agents of this striker on Friday and £12.7million could seal the deal in January.
