West Ham are unlikely to be able to complete a move for Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, claims ExWHUemployee.
The reliable Hammers insider stated that the club are looking to sign a replacement for Angelo Ogbonna in the January window.
However, he is unsure whether City are open to selling him and foresees plenty of obstacles in getting this deal over the line.
He shared an update on his Patreon channel which read, “I can confirm that we are looking for a replacement centre backs for Angelo Ogbonna who has been ruled out for the season. Within the players that we are targeting a key characteristic is that they are left sided as it is felt that we have struggled since the Italian was ruled out.
“The Dutchman is a previous target as well. Left-sided centre backs are very in demand at the moment so should Man City wish to sell/loan then there would be a lot of competition.
“The other issue is that it isn’t confirmed that City are prepared to sell and he featured in their last game against Aston Villa. I think there are many obstacles in the way at this point from making this deal likely and West Ham fans should not get too excited at this point.”
Bites the dust
There appeared to be some excitement when 90Min reported that the Hammers were keen on signing the Citizens defender.
After Ogbonna’s injury, it became imperative to sign a replacement, and the Dutchman was rated very highly before moving to the Etihad Stadium.
Since joining Pep Guardiola’s side on a big fee, he has found game time hard to come by, and it seemed that a move to the London Stadium would be appetising for him.
However, if Ex’s claims are to be believed, this deal is not likely to happen and City may not even be keen on letting go of the 26-year-old.
Hopefully, the club narrow in on an ideal replacement as soon as possible as these things take time to get over the line.
Even in the summer, it took until the final few days of the window to get the Kurt Zouma deal over the line and they certainly would not want a repeat of that all over again.
