West Ham take on Crystal Palace on New Year day at Selhurst Park and will want to pick up another win to boost their top-four chances.

Recent results have not been good, and while they got the job done against Watford earlier in the week to get their campaign back on track, Michael Owen does not see them getting a win against the Eagles.

The former Premier League star has predicted a 1-1 draw in his BetVictor column, tipping both sides to settle for the share of the spoils.

Owen said: “That was a comfortable win for Palace against Norwich, who truth be told, were an ideal opponent. I liked what I saw from Odsonne Edouard. A goal and two assists was a good return, and I think he can build on that moving forward.

West Ham got back to winning ways in style against Watford. There were a number of good performances, including Benrahma who looks like he’s back in form, but it was Jarrod Bowen who caught my eye again.

“Bowen is getting better and better, and he was superb against Watford. He’s surely on Gareth Southgate’s radar.

“This is a tough one to call. I can see a draw here.”

Possibly?

Palace have been one of the impressive sides of 2021-22, doing incredibly well under Patrick Vieira, and they surely can give the Hammers a run for their money.

They have lost the same number of games (six) as West Ham and are almost equally as good as them at both ends of the pitch.

The London Stadium outfit have scored 34 goals and shipped 25 in 19 games, and Palace have scored 27 and conceded 27.

Both sides have similar things in common, and this could be a tight affair.

A moment of individual brilliance or mistake could have a huge say on the result, and West Ham centre-back duo Craig Dawson and Issa Diop will need to be on top of their game.

With Declan Rice returning after suspension, the Irons have been handed a huge boost in the middle of the park.

Said Benrahma will be playing his last game before heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria, and he will be keen to leave on a good note.

Michail Antonio has done well in front of goal in his last two games, and should he and Bowen turn up, a win could be on the cards for the Hammers.
