Martin Samuel of the Daily Mail has suggested that West Ham midfielder Declan Rice should avoid joining Manchester United in the summer.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester clubs and Chelsea, but Samuel has suggested that a move to Old Trafford won’t be suitable for him.

Following United’s 5-0 defeat against Liverpool, doubts have been raised about the direction the club is heading towards under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Samuel has suggested that apart from making Rice richer, he cannot see how United make him a better player.

“A young player needs to go to work with Pep Guardiola, needs to go to work with Jurgen Klopp or needs to go to work with Thomas Tuchel,” Martin Samuel said to talkSPORT.

“There’s a number of managers where you can go ‘yeah, I can see that playing in the Champions League under these coaches’.

“But specifically Manchester United, you have got a lot of guys who played for Manchester United who have conducted a recruitment campaign on behalf of them every time they go on the television.

“Well, the club you are recruiting for actually doesn’t justify those names.

“I can see what Declan Rice could do for Manchester United, I cannot see what Manchester United can do for Declan Rice, other than make him a bit richer.”

Outstanding form

Rice has been simply outstanding this season for the Hammers. He has been an epitome of consistency, and he is getting better and better with every single game.

The England international suggested that talks over his future in the media has not hampered his focus on the pitch, and it has been reflected in his performances.

West Ham finished sixth last season, and they are fourth already this campaign. The Hammers have been brilliant in their Europa League campaign so far, and Rice seems to be enjoying his game.

The midfielder has reportedly rejected two contract offers already from West Ham, but the Hammers are pretty relaxed about his situation.

David Moyes said recently that top clubs missed out on a ‘bargain’ as Rice was available for £100 million this summer.

Sky Sports pundit Karen Carney has hailed him as an “amazing” and “phenomenal” player recently.

Anton Ferdinand has also suggested that Rice should look to stay put at West Ham should they finish within the top four this season.

In other West Ham news, Jack Wilshere has predicted major Hammers exit, but reckons one goal would stop it.
