We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie admits a point against Liverpool on Sunday would represent a terrific result for West Ham.
The Reds travel to East London this weekend without a defeat all season, but they face an Irons outfit in brilliant form themselves, with three successive wins in the Premier League.
However, ex-Irons attacker McAvennie fears what a Liverpool side in “full flow” could do to David Moyes’ team.
“I can’t see them beating Liverpool, I don’t think they’re there yet,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone. “Liverpool in full flow…the good thing is it’s at the London Stadium. I’d take a draw, I’d bite your hand off for a draw right now. They are an in-form team [Liverpool].
“I heard Klopp shouting and bawling, I heard he wasn’t happy with [Virgil] van Dijk which you can realise if you saw him at Celtic. Sometimes he thinks it’s too easy for him but the manager has obviously given him a kick up the backside, so I don’t think he’ll be slack at the weekend.
“But Antonio is a handful against anyone, he’s a big boy and he’ll push him about. I think it will be a good game.”
In other West Ham news, Jurgen Klopp has poured praise on this Irons star amid heavy transfer links to Liverpool.
