Alan Brazil suggests West Ham will be looking for a new striker during the January transfer window, immediately throwing up the name of 25-year-old Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos.
Speaking via talkSPORT on Friday morning (3 December), Brazil discussed West Ham’s mid-season recruitment plans.
“Perhaps [in] January they’re looking for a new striker,” he said.
“What about your mate Ally [McCoist], Morelos, is he moving in January, could he be heading off somewhere?”
McCoist replied: “I’d like to see him move in this moment in time, as in putting one front of the other, [that] would be a start!”
On the move?
Steven Gerrard recently left Rangers to take charge at Aston Villa, sparking speculation that a number of his former stars could follow him out the Ibrox exit door.
Morelos may not be the biggest departure at this current time, though, as his stock has fallen in Glasgow.
After signing from Finish side HJK in 2017, Morelos has scored over 100 goals for the Gers, becoming their record goalscorer in Europe.
However, his performances have declined this season and he has scored just four goals in 13 Premiership appearances, though he has four in seven in European competition.
Overall, the Colombian international has scored 156 goals across his career, including one for his national side.
He may not be in the best of form up in Scotland, but a move to London could reignite his fire.
Morelos has proven that he can score goals in the Europa League, a competition the Irons currently find themselves in, and he may accept the role of Michail Antonio’s understudy in the short term, with minutes more heavily weighted in favour of the 31-year-old.
In other West Ham news, Gary Lineker has shared his verdict on this ‘Big’ Irons incident in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.
