Paul Merson has lifted the hearts of Hammers fans by suggesting that West Ham will secure a Champions League spot on one condition…maintaining consistency.

Merson has invoked the recent record of Newcastle, who have won three games back to back, and, in the process, furnishing lavish praise. As such, the former Arsenal hitman has said that West Ham could learn from this.

The Sky Sports pundit had this to say via Sky Sports on whether the Hammers can get the 4th Champions League spot:

“If West Ham were to do that now, they’ve got every chance of playing Champions League football next year. The Premier League is hard, so to win three straight games is impressive,”

Easy To Say…But Necessary Too….

West Ham are in the mix for the 4th spot, and have a great chance of playing in Europe’s top competition next year. However, the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea will likely stop the Hammers from finishing any higher than 4th, since their grip on the top 3 positions seems so strong right now.

However, when it comes to 4th, there is all to play for. But, to get that last spot, West Ham will face stiff competition from the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, and even Wolves have a fair chance as well.

Even thoughWest Ham started the season well, consistency has eluded them, hence why Merson has highlighted the need for this aspect to now come to the fore.

The good news is that their rivals are not having the best of runs either, making a Hammers 4th finish attainable. With Arsenal up against Chelsea, and Manchester United struggling for consistency too, the Hammers need to seize the moment.

The Hammers though, have struggled for consistency, with a single win in their last four outings. But, if they can add consistency to the mix, they will be hard to stop!
