West Ham United will be facing their toughest opponent of the Premier League season so far when they host unbeaten Liverpool on Sunday.

David Moyes’ men have dumped Manchester United and
Manchester City out of the League Cup, and they will fancy their chances of causing an upset against the Reds.

The Hammers have been brilliant during the 2021/22 campaign so far, losing just twice, but Michael Owen does not see them getting a result against his old side.

He told BetVictor: “West Ham continue to get better and better. There are not many midfielders playing better than Declan Rice in the League this season. He seems to get better each time I watch him and he’s inspiring his side at the minute.

“After a disappointing draw against Brighton, the Reds were superb against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday. Trent Alexander-Arnold was at his brilliant best with those two assists and the first was outstanding.

“A very hard game to call. However, I really like the way Liverpool are playing at the minute and think they can leave London with a win. I’m going for 2-1 Liverpool.”

Tough game

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won six league games and drawn four games this term, and they remain the team to beat.

Given how lethal the Liverpool attack has been so far, with the most goals (29) to their name in the league, the West Ham defence need to be on top of their game to stop the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

The former has been in devastating form in front of goal this term, and the Hammers need to find a way to limit his influence to have a chance of pipping the visitors to all three points.

At the other end, Michail Antonio will be coming up against Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, and that will be an exciting battle to watch.

The West Ham hitman has been a thorn in the flesh for most defences this season, and if he can make life uneasy for the Liverpool backline, his side has a realistic chance of getting a result.

The top-of-the-table clash will most likely live up to its expectation and hype, and the Irons will be making a statement of intent with a win.
