West Ham striker Michail Antonio will be Liverpool’s main concern when the Hammers host the Reds on Sunday, according to the Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle.

The Jamaican international has continued, and improved on, his form from last season, starting this campaign in barnstorming fashion. In a collectively strong West Ham side, the striker is one of the most threatening and dangerous components.

And, when asked by football.london who Jurgen Klopp will be wary of, the Liverpool Echo’s chief Liverpool writer Doyle suggested that there’d be one above anyone else.

“One in particular – Michail Antonio,” he said.

“He has scored five goals against Liverpool in the past and always seems to have a good game,” he continued. “It was noticeable that last season he wasn’t fit enough to feature in either of Liverpool’s games against West Ham in the Premier League, and the Reds won both.”

Crucial

Antonio is, without a shadow of a doubt, crucial to West Ham.

The 31-year-old has seemingly developed into a colossus at the top of the pitch under David Moyes, with many feeling his wrath.

Hitting ten goals in each of the previous two Premier League campaigns, Antonio has already notched six this term, as well as assisting three (Transfermarkt). His pace in behind, power with the ball at his feet, and almost unmanageable presence for opposition defences is a major factor in West Ham’s potency since gradually progressing into a feared force.

Liverpool, obviously, have their own colossal presence at the heart of defence. Virgil Van Dijk will likely be the man tasked with containing Antonio although, on current form, it’s more than a fair contest.

As a general match-up, the Hammers clash with Klopp’s side will be tight, intriguing and most probably thoroughly watchable.

Should Moyes’ men come away with a gargantuan victory and leapfrog their visitors in the table, Antonio will surely be central to the performance and result – especially having notched five in nine appearances against Sunday’s opponents.

It’s no surprise he’s been playing on the Red’s minds.
