Harry Redknapp has encouraged Declan Rice to stay at West Ham instead of forcing a move as the West Ham captain continues to be linked to a move.

The England international has played a vital role in West Ham’s rise in recent seasons and improves year upon year after making his debut in 2016.

The Hammers are currently the best they have been in years and with them being on the up, those affiliated with the club want him to stay.

“He’s very much a massive part of the team at West Ham,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“It’s a great club to be at and unless he’s going to go to Man City, maybe Man United or whatever. He’s been at Chelsea as a kid so I think that’d be a difficult one for them, to spend the money having given him away when he was young.

“So I think he’s in a great place at West Ham and I’d like to see him stay there long term. He’s in the England team so it’s not holding him back at all and West Ham look like a team who are on the up.

“They could be challenging for trophies next year so hopefully, for West Ham’s sake, he stays another few years there.”

Rice has to remain loyal to the Irons, at least for the next few seasons. There is a real feel-good factor around the club and our most influential player leaving could be a real blow to not only the team but the fans’ morale which is vital at the London Stadium

Redknapp is spot on in terms of Rice being in the England team, something that players may have used as an excuse to leave in the past. Gareth Southgate likes to pick players based on form so if he wants to solidify a spot at next year’s World Cup he should stay and continue to shine.

Sitting in fifth in the Premier League and in the last 16 of the Europa League; this current crop of players has the chance to do something special with this team.

If Rice does manage to lead us to a trophy, he would become an instant East London legend with more praise than he could wish for at soulless Chelsea and Manchester United.
