Newcastle United have continued their squad improvements during this transfer window by signing Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes.

What Is The Deal?

The price that was paid for Bruno Guimaraes is £35m with £6.6m in add-ons. Oftentimes, add-ons are unspecified, however we can report that part of the extras included in this package involve Newcastle staying up, avoiding relegation, and 20% of the primary fee will go to his former club Athletico Paranaense.

Guimaraes has signed a four and a half year contract. And, as such, there is growing optimism that in purchasing a player of his character, Newcastle have the firepower to avoid relegation this year, and build for a strong movement up the table in the next year or so.

A Missed Opportunity For The Gunners

Whilst this signing bodes well for Newcastle, it is not so good for the Gunners, who have so far failed to strengthen their squad at all in this window…in fact, they have decreased the depth of their squad.

And, with David Ornstein uttering 4 words that Arsenal fans dread to hear:

No incoming deals close

the window is looking very bleak for the Arsenal club and fans. With the potential loaning out of Aubameyang, plus departures of Kolasinac, Maitland-Niles, Chambers etc, the squad will be very short. No one will be sympathetic if Arsenal again claim to have insufficient players to put out a team since it is partly a crisis of their own doing.

Great News For The North East

The signing of Bruno Guimaraes is great news for the North East.

Newcastle United are a club rich in history and support. It is hoped that they can survive this season, and stay up…the Premier League is richer for having them in it.

But, for Arsenal, when opposing teams strengthen, and your team doesn’t, it means that your progress is halted, perhaps even lessens somewhat.

For today though, Newcastle fans will be happy, as will unbiased Football fans everywhere!
