West Ham United have submitted a £13million bid for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, according to French outlet Le10Sport.

The 19-year-old is also on the radar of Newcastle United, but it is the Hammers who have tabled an offer, and they are even willing to loaning him back to the Ligue 1 outfit for the rest of 2021-22 if a deal can be sealed before the January transfer window shuts.

Reims, Ekitike and his family will now take their time before responding to the Irons’ offer.

Good move?

West Ham would love to bring a new striker to the London Stadium outfit this month as a cover and competition to Michail Antonio, and whether a deal that will see them agree to loan the teenager back to the club will appeal to them remains to be seen.

Ekitike is attracting attention following his fine start to the season, with eight goals and two assists to his name in 17 league games.

The London Stadium outfit would be keen on a long-term addition to their striking department, and the French sensation fits the bill.

However, the youngster could have reservations over a move as he surely wants to continue playing regularly, and it is unknown whether that is guaranteed under David Moyes.

The Jamaican international plays all the games, and Ekitike could struggle to see action on a consistent basis.

An interesting battle could be on the cards among the suitors keen on signing him, but he could be keen on waiting till summer before leaving Reims, and it why West Ham’s proposal to sign him and loan him back could be attractive.
