James Tarkowski would be interested in a move to West Ham in January and the chance to work with David Moyes, according to Evening Standard.

However, the 29-year-old centre-back is relaxed about running down his contract at Burnley with the Hammers yet to make a formal approach.

The London Stadium outfit are ready to back Moyes to sign a defensive cover for Kurt Zouma next month after he was ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a serious hamstring injury.

Burnley still value Tarkowski at up to £20million despite the fact that he has just over six months left on his deal, and the Irons could look at other options, with Liverpool’s Nat Phillips and Manchester City’s Nathan Ake on their list of targets too.

With Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna both out of action for the long-term, West Ham have been forced into the transfer market to solve their injury crisis, and there is no doubt that the Burnley would be a perfect addition to their backline.

He was dubbed ‘outstanding’ by Sean Dyche after he made a dream Premier League debut in the Clarets win over Crystal Palace in May 2017, and the two-time England international has not let his standard slip since then after almost 200 top-flight games.

The Hammers could do with someone of that quality to keep their top-four chances alive, but the Turf Moor outfit will not be keen to lose one of their best players as they are staring down the barrel of relegation.

West Ham may have to look elsewhere, and while landing Tarkowski for free in the summer would be huge, he will be not short of suitors when he becomes a free agent.

A move for Phillips could be more realistic as he is not even the fourth choice at Anfield, while Pep Guardiola could be against letting Ake leave given the number of games ahead.
