West Ham consolidated their fourth position in the Premier League table with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Chelsea at the weekend.

The Hammers were the better team and deserved winners at the London Stadium on Saturday (4 December), and Alan Shearer has included David Moyes as the manager in his Team of the Week column.

The Newcastle United legend believes two crucial decisions from the Hammers boss made all the difference against Thomas Tuchel’s men, praising him for the tactical decisions.

Shearer said: “Another incredible result to maintain West Ham’s top-four push.

“Moyes matched Chelsea’s 3-4-3 system, and both that and his half-time introduction of match-winner Arthur Masuaku paid off.”

Moyes took off Ben Johnson for the Congo international ahead of the restart after the former sustained a knock, and that decision singlehandedly gave West Ham all three points.

The left-back scored a late winner after his attempted cross fooled the Chelsea goalkeeper and found its way into the back of the net.

It was not the best of strikes and the Hammers needed things to go their way, but the substitution proved vital in the end, and that is all that matters.

Moyes outsmarted Tuchel, mirroring his formation and deploying the best player for every position.

West Ham did not particularly put in an eye-catching performance, but there was a lot of grit and determination on display, and they matched everything Chelsea threw at them.

Vital wins against the Blues and Liverpool have proven that the Hammers mean business, and not many can dismiss their top-four chances right now.
