We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Manuel Lanzini won’t be allowed to leave West Ham this month despite being linked with a move away, according to Frank McAvennie.

The Mirror reported via their print edition on 1 January [page 7 of pull-out] that Lanzini, 28, is someone who “has to go” this month as he’s no longer a regular starter for David Moyes.

After that report emerged, Lanzini scored twice in a 3-2 win away at Crystal Palace as he started a second Premier League match in a row.

Due to how well the Irons are performing this season, McAvennie doesn’t expect to see any players sold by David Moyes in January.

And if Lanzini is moveed on, McAvennie has suggested that it could anger the West Ham boss.

Speaking to West Ham Zone about the possibility of the Argentina international being sold, McAvennie said: “I would hate to think so.

I don’t think West Ham are a selling team at the moment.

They’re happy and they’re pushing for the top-four. It’s been last season and this season so it’s no fluke.

You can’t go selling players and I don’t think David will be too happy with that.

I don’t think Lanzini will go anywhere and I’m hoping he doesn’t go anywhere because he’s such a talent.”

Lanzini has played 22 times in all competitions for the Irons this season.

He’s started just five times in the Premier League but the ex-River Plate playmaker has shown his worth in Europe and the Carabao Cup, when he’s started seven of nine matches.

His goals against Crystal Palace at the weekend were his third and fourth of the Premier League season while he also netted a Carabao Cup winner against Manchester United in September.

In other West Ham news, an “extraordinary” offer could see the Irons bag this centre-back in January.
