We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie has urged the West Ham board to free up the funds for David Moyes to add to his squad this month.

We’re almost halfway through January and the Hammers are yet to add anyone to their first-team squad.

Moyes’ men are in good form in the Premier League but McAvennie is worried that if there are a few injury issues, the manager’s options will be decimated.

McAvennie is particularly impressed by Jarrod Bowen’s form on the right but he admits that if the ex-Hull attacker gets injured, there’s no one he’d trust to come into the side and perform at a similar level.

Sometimes you go through a purple patch like Bowen is at the moment; long may it continue,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.

He’s taken Yarmolenko’s place and he’s not getting it back.

People want to fight for places and have competition, that’s what makes a good team.

The problem with Bowen is there’s no one fighting for his place.

There’s not enough depth, I don’t think, at West Ham at the moment.

It happened last year when Rice got injured for a while and Noble came in but Noble can’t play three or four games in a row.

If Antonio got injured, nobody would have played up front last year so they need to bring players in.

They’re in such a good position that I’m hoping the owners have something up their sleeve and David’s going to produce a couple of players.

They’re a wonderful team but they need depth.

Between the manager and the owners, they can get some money and buy a couple of players.”

In other West Ham news, Simon Jordan blasted Jim White’s sources after a major Hammers story was broken on talkSPORT.
