West Ham travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford on Tuesday (28 December), and they need to get a win after their recent dip in form.

The Hammers have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, but Sky Sports expert Lewis Jones is tipping them to narrowly edge out the Hornets, predicting a 1-0 win for them in his column.

Watford have won just four games all season in 2021-22, losing eight of their last 10, and David Moyes’ side should not find it difficult to get all three points despite their struggles against teams below them in the table.

Jones said: “West Ham have been consistent for such a long period of time, I’d be quite confident of Moyes getting the required reaction at Vicarage Road, especially if, as expected, Michail Antonio plays from the start. His introduction at half time sparked them into life.

“A key area of the game will be set pieces. West Ham should be able to put Watford under significant pressure from them.”

Guaranteed win?

The Irons are still very much in the top-four race despite failing to impress of late, but they need to quickly arrest their slide, and anything apart from victory against Claudio Ranieri’s side would further deal a blow on their Champions League hopes.

Declan Rice is suspended for the trip, though, after picking up five yellow cards in 2021-22, and that could make the clash a tricky one for them.

Watford have what it takes to spring a surprise, and West Ham cannot see a win as a foregone conclusion.

They have dropped points against Southampton, Burnley, Brighton, Wolves, Brentford and Crystal Palace, and it appears the clubs they are favourites against on paper are their Achilles heel this term.

Watford will fancy their chances and will be giving their best as they know relegation could become a reality if care is not taken.

Both teams have a lot on the line despite being at opposite ends of the table, and a fierce clash could be on the cards.
